It has been quite some time since I last posted on this website. I've been using the Remind App as my main source of communication for spreading school news & sharing pictures/ activities that we're working on. I decided it was about time I gave this site some love soooo here we go!
Last week we celebrated our 100th day of school! Our little ones dressed up in adorable outfits, like if they were 100 year old grannies & grandpas! We had a blast as we incorporated tasty treats & fun games into our "100 days of school" lesson.
As Valentine's Day approaches, we've also been talking about friendship, family, love & kindness. We've been reading books about the topic & have had great classroom discussion. We also created some awesome crafts to decorate our classroom for the special holiday of love!
Letter of the week: Pp
Some concepts we've been reviewing: Rhyming words, compound words
Some speech & language goals we worked on: "who, what, where" questions pertaining to a story/scenario, expanding length of responses, sentence structure, following directions, articulation goals.

I cannot believe it's the last day of November!! ahhh where has time gone?!
Here's a little recap of this past week:
Story: "The Gingerbread Man"
Letter of the week: Ii
Some small group activities we did: after reading "The Gingerbread Man", students were able to recall & retell the story using props & did a phenomenal job acting out the story. They truly loved the story! Ask them about the story & see what they are able to recall, perhaps using some visual cues on YouTube or on the internet. We created our very own gingerbread men out of construction paper. We also discussed how the woman in the story rolled the dough, cut out a boy & added his eyes, nose, mouth & buttons and were able to recreate this using play dough & "baking tools". We learned all about igloos ("i is for igloo") and created our own igloos using art supplies. We discussed various items that start w/ the letter i, did a picture map, played mystery box, & worked on other tasks to reinforce the letter.
We sure did a whole lot! Sometimes it's hard to write all of it down, but above are some tasks to give you an idea of what's going on in our classroom. :)
Some speech & language goals we worked on: "who, what, where" questions pertaining to a story/scenario, expanding length of responses, sentence structure, following directions, articulation goals.
HOLIDAY SHOW:
The Christmas show for our class will be on Tuesday, December 11 at 7:00 pm at the main campus. You must drop off your child in the assigned room (TBA) in the main building at 6:30 pm. Please do not be late. Children will be wearing a red shirt & blue jeans. We will be providing some reindeer antlers! IMMEDIATELY after they perform, you must pick them up outside on the side of the cafeteria. Once you pick up your child, you may go back inside with them to enjoy the rest of the show. The teacher cannot stay with the children outside.
We will be singing "Rudolph the Red- Nosed Reindeer". We'll be practicing it every single day! If you can sing with them at home, that would be wonderful! :)
Stay tuned for more information.
FIELD DAY:
It will take place that last week before holiday break. Exact date TBA! It will be a day filled with fun outdoor activities. Students are welcome to purchase field day t-shirts! (flyer was sent out last week) If you'd like to volunteer, please make sure you're registered to volunteer w/ MDCPS. :)
Thank you so much for all that you do!

Some small group activities we did: after reading "The Napping House", students were able to recall & retell the story using props & our felt board, they did a fantastic job with sequential order & recalling details in the story. We also working on names, where students had to choose which letter stamps they needed in order to recreate their name. We reviewed opposites once again & I'm so happy to say they have grasped the concept quite well in the classroom! We discussed various items that start w/ the letter G, did a picture map, played mystery box, & worked on other tasks to reinforce the letter.
We sure did a whole lot! Sometimes it's hard to write all of it down, but above are some tasks to give you an idea of what's going on in our classroom. :)

Here's a little recap of this past week:
Story: "Pumpkin, Pumpkin" & "Big Pumpkin" (along w/ short spooky stories chosen by our little ones)
Letter of the week: Review Ff
Some small group activities we did: after reading "Pumpkin, Pumpkin", we talked about the different characteristics of a real big pumpkin. We used a string to measure how wide the pumpkin was, we carried it to see just how heavy it was & then we carved it! As we cut into the pumpkin, we talked about all the seeds and "pumpkin guts" that were inside. How many seeds there were, how gooey the "pumpkin guts" felt, etc. It was a blast! We then decided to make a silly face on the pumpkin & placed it inside our classroom for the entire week. We also talked about the life cycle of a pumpkin (seed, sprout, flower, pumpkin) & planted pumpkin seeds in our own individual cups. Your little ones will be taking them home once they sprout! On Character Day/ Halloween, it was great seeing all of the students' costumes. They all looked awesome! This week was filled with a lot of wonderful opportunities for language.
We sure did a whole lot! Sometimes it's hard to write all of it down, but above are some tasks to give you an idea of what's going on in our classroom. :)

Here's a little recap of the past 2 weeks:
Story: "A Dark, Dark Wood" + "A Strange Visitor"
Letter of the week: Ee + Ff
Some small group activities we did: we read "In a Dark, Dark Wood" with the lights off & listening to "spooky music". The kids loved it! We discussed various potential outcomes to the story & had a blast with the ending surprise. (hint: it says BOO) We went on a nature walk about described our surroundings, as we collecting sticks/ twigs for our art project. We reviewed the concept "big vs. small". The following week we read "A Strange Visitor", which has a lot of repeated lines & actions. The little ones immediately remembered the lines & vividly acted out the story with me. They did fantastic! We also introduced "opposites"! They grasped this concept quite quickly and did a great job identifying/ labeling.

Story: :Five Little Monkeys Sitting in a Tree" + "Lllama, Llama, Red Pajama"
Some small group activities we did: color & shape bingo, interactive red games on Promethean Board, scavenger hunt, sang RED song using our shakers, painted something red using watercolors, introduction to symmetry using paint, created prints using half an apple
Some speech & language goals we worked on: "who, what, where" questions pertaining to a story/scenario, expanding length of responses, sentence structure, following directions, articulation.
We sure did a whole lot! Sometimes it's hard to write all of it down, but above are some tasks to give you an idea of what's going on in our classroom. :)
Reminders: If you have not sent a change of clothes for your child, please do so. (write his/ her name)
